Couple In Ghana Jailed For Trying To Sell Their Child For Ghc 12,000

CHILD CRYING

Is this what the John Mahama economy has brought Ghanaians to? This people are obviously not ‘parents of the year’ but they’re probably not living in the best circumstances if they were contemplating selling their child!

Two farmers from Eduano near Assin Fosu, have been jailed five years each after attempting to sell their son to an undercover police officer.

According to Graphic Online, the couple were in dire straits after moving from Togo to Ghana, and attempted to sell their child as a means to raise some cash.

They discussed it with some friends, who alerted the police which led to an undercover officer being sent to negotiate with them.

He disguised himself as a Catholic Priest, and bargained with the parent to sell the boy at Ghc 12,000.

They were both arrested soon after and placed before court, and charged with conspiracy to commit crime and human trafficking. They both pleaded guilty, which led to their conviction.

Their son is currently in the custody of the Social Welfare Department.
