Government is investigating alleged smuggle of bird flu poultry from Burkina Faso into the country which is reported to be the source of the recent bird flu outbreak at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
About 2000 birds was destroyed to avoid the spreading of the disease after results from the test conducted on the birds proved positive.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture in charge of livestock, Dr. Hannah Bissiw told Joy News that “they are looking into it and if it is true that birds were smuggled in from Burkina then some heads will have to roll along the line;
“If they pass through the border…because we check documents but if they did not pass through the borders then fine.”
As a result the Ministry of Agric has imposed a ban on the hawking of birds as a measure to minimize the spread of bird flu in the country.
I hereby advice you to cook them well….just in-case you lay hand on any bird…
