I may not be in the good books of most Ghanaians when it comes to religion but one thing is for sure, I wouldn’t ever act this stupid, made easy by religion.

Of course there are credulous lame people everywhere but indisputably, religion perpetuates societal stupidity—that is, if it is not the fountainhead of all the ludicrousness in our part of the world.

A few months ago, I stated that, “I have always known religion to be inherently insane but the level Africans take this insanity to is heart-breaking.”

I always summarize by disdain for religion as this; “Religion is violent, irrational, makes absurd claims which it hates to be challenged, allied to racism, tribalism, bigotry, glorifies ignorance and invests heavily in the oppression of women and continues to terrorize children—and I am sure I have not mentioned its hostility to free inquiry.”

Each day, you come across absurd true stories—that but for religion, those involved would never act that way.

If you ever meet any of those chewing on the snake below on the street (believing it has been turned into chocolate bars by God) and ask that they behave in such irrational way, they will certainly decline and perhaps, punch you in the face.

But just employ religion and you would get the wisest man in the room to act as though his head is full of cotton wool.

According to a report by Citizen, South African pastor-Penuel Mnguni, 24, of End Times Disciples Ministries Church in Soshanguve, Pretoria, instructed his congregation to eat snakes, saying, his prayers had turned the snakes into chocolate bars—and they gladly obeyed.

The church proudly took photos and posted them on their official facebook wall…

The report adds that, this happened during a faith sermon—the pastor declared that he had “the authority to change everything into anything and it will obey because of our authority”. And that, by authority he has changed the snakes into sweet chocolate bars—to be eaten by all.

This is the same pastor who asked his congregants to strip off a few months ago—and jumped up and down on them while praying for them…

If religion is not evil, what else is? And some of you say we shouldn’t discuss or attack religion for such nonsense?
