Serena Williams overcame 21 year old Spanish wildcard Garbine Muguruza to win her 21st Grand Slam title at this year’s Wimbledon.
The American top seed , holder of the other three grand slams, achieved a comfortable 6-4, 6-4 win over the Spaniard, capping off an impressive year that has seen her grab almost every single important tournament she’s participated in.
Winning the US Open next month would see her complete the calendar slam, making her one of the few people who simultaneously win all four of tennis’ major events in a single calendar year.
This victory leaves Serena with 21 Grand Slam titles, only one less than all time leader Steffi Graff. The 33 year old Serena also becomes the oldest ever champion at the All England Club.
The men’s final on Sunday features another veteran, Roger Federer taking on the current world number one Novak Djokovic.
