Former EC Boss-Afari Gyan Receives Ghana’s Highest Award

The immediate past chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan, was this afternoon presented with the highest award of the land.

For his work managing elections in this country for the better part of two decades, the steely eyed administrator was presented with the Companion of the Order of Star of Ghana by the President, John Dramani Mahama.

Afari Gyan presided over a series of closely fought elections, with his uncompromising stance winning him as much admirers as detractors. He stepped down last month to make way for the new chairperson, former National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) boss Charlotte Osei, who has been sworn in.

Also awarded with the highest national award were over 40 medical personnel who were in Ebola hit countries helping combat the epidemic.
