I just love Ghana for the fact that most state-owned facilities are under poor conditions; yet, new ones are being added to them each day without maintaining the old ones.
On May 11, 2015, GhanaCelebrities.Com took upon itself to visit the biggest public recreational park in the Accra Metropolis – the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park – to find out how social activities at the place were going. Upon arrival, we were shocked at what our eyes saw. The place had been totally abandoned. None of the facilities was in good state; in fact, they were all damaged to the point that they could hurt children who try to play with them.
The place keeps deteriorating each passing day but those in charge of the amusement park do not bother to maintain the place.
According to a new report from Graphic Online, President John Dramani Mahama, together with the ‘Asantehene’ – Otumfuo Osei Tutu II – will jointly commission a recreational facility in Kumasi on Friday after leaving the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park to deteriorate.
The recreational facility known as ‘The Rattray Park, Kumasi City” forms part of efforts to green Kumasi and restore it to its past glory as the Garden City of West Africa.
According to the online report, “the objective is to give the citizens of Kumasi and beyond a one-stop recreation facility and also promote a healthy lifestyle.
It has an acoustic dancing fountain, the first of its kind in Ghana.
The 42,000 square-meter recreational facility can boast of a six square-meter multimedia controlled fountain, children’s playground, a golf cart, wi-fi internet connectivity, an open robust gym and a cafeteria among others.”
We all live to see the state of the park in the next 5 years but for now, it’s good news for the people of Kumasi.
I agree….I don’t know what is wrong with us…how can you not maintain what you have…as for us Ghanaians, it sounds like we don’t know what that is
