Floyd Mayweather has called out Oscar De La Hoya to fight him this September.
“I seen the little thing Oscar talking about he’s coming back. I mean, you know, I mean, if he wants to, we can rock and roll in September,” he told FightHype.com
This is pretty ridiculous from Mayweather. Why does he want a fight from a washed-up and overweight De La Hoya? Granted Oscar gave him a tough fight in their 2007 bout, in 2015 I don’t doubt it will be more lopsided than the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight.
I can point only two reasons Mayweather is picking Oscar. First, a De La Hoya fight is good business. Until the Mayweather and Pacman’s ‘Fight of the Century’, Oscar and Mayweather’s 2007 fight held the PPV records. So a rematch for the pair would be wonderful for business.
Secondly, Mayweather wants a safe fight so that he wouldn’t risk his perfect record. Fighting a ring rusting De La Hoya will be a walkover for the Money Man. At 38, fighting a beast like GGG (Gennady Golokvin) would be very tough for Floyd and his tired legs.
