Kanu Nwankwo is a retired Nigerian footballer who played as a striker. He was diagnosed with a serious heart defect, and underwent surgery in November 1996 to replace an aortic valve.
Kanu’s experience led to him founding the ‘Kanu Heart Foundation’, an organization that helps predominantly young African children who suffer heart defects. His work was also expanded to provide aid for the homeless in 2008. Kanu is known throughout Africa for his philanthropic work.
The Kanu Heart Foundation, recently sent these five Nigerians pictured with Kanu above, to India where they will undergo heart surgeries…
Well-done Kano!
