Muhammadu Buhari Finally Sworn in As President of Nigeria

Muhammadu Buhari

Officially, Nigeria has a new president—Muhammadu Buhari who won the March 2015 election has been sworn in as the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

This is a joyful time for the former military ruler and his political party-All Progressives Congress (APC) but certainly, the difficulties Nigeria faces will determine his fate and that of his party…

Mr Buhari is the first opposition figure to win a presidential election in Nigeria since independence in 1960 and with history having been made, Nigerians hope he will make another history by turning things around in the West African country.

“I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody”, he told cheering crowds at the inauguration in the capital, Abuja.

He vowed to tackle “head on” the issues of corruption and the insurgency from militant Islamist group Boko Haram.

Ahead of today’s inauguration, Buhari made news on the blogs when he flew from London to Nigeria for his official sworn in on board British Airways’ Economy class.
