Former President John Agyekum Kufuor received an honorary doctorate from Delaware State University for his contributions to hunger and poverty alleviation the world over.
Kufuor gave the commencement address at the graduation ceremony of 500 students of the university, during which he was awarded his own honorary doctorate degree in Humane Letters.
His address was the first delivered to a graduating class by a former Head of State, and he used the platform to admonish the students to try and give back to society, and apply their skills to worthy causes such as the alleviation of hunger and poverty.
“The world you are about to enter is vastly different than the world your parents entered into when they came into adulthood,” He said.
“Mankind has at last come to realize the vision of a global village.
The responsibility falls on the youth of today to continue the fight, to pick up the mantle of global leadership”
Kufuor has been involved in several humanitarian projects since he left office in 2008, working with ECOWAS, the African Union, and the United Nations.
