Many do not understand it when we rant about how lazy most journalists/bloggers have become in a country which is on cruise control. Several people do want to make some cool cash online by setting up blogs. One thing they fail to realize is, blogging involves writing and researching. Without the desire and necessary art, one cannot operate a blog or own a news website.
In an era where competition amongst news websites and entertainment blogs has become keen, many online journalists in Ghana fail to research on topics. What has become the order of the day in Ghana is content theft and I really do not know when this canker will cease.
Majority of Ghanaian bloggers/journalists are at war with reading so they find it very difficult to make reading a part of them. Who in this world would want to make their enemies a part of them? Nobody, and that’s exactly what majority of Ghanaian bloggers are doing.
People lift stories written by others and do not credit the source. The funny aspect is, such ones do not even read through the stories they lift to correct errors found in them. All that they are interested in is to copy and splash articles on their blogs or news websites. If that’s how to run a blog or news website, then I must say blogging is the easiest job I’ve ever come across.
Lo and behold, some blogs and news websites including Multimedia’s Adom Online plagiarized the article and attributed it to Ama K. Abebrese, saying the Ghanaian actress says she had not had orga$m for almost 3 months due to the energy crisis in Ghana. The same error was committed by Multimedia’s Asempa FM.
In view of that, GhanaCelebrities.Com reached out to the actress to find out what she thinks about this whole mess.
“I’m so much disappointed in Adom Fm, Nhyira Fm, George Britton for such lazy journalism. A whole Adom Fm could not do a simple research before publishing the story. They did not even mention where they picked the original content from. I expected better journalistic integrity from the Multimedia Group,” Ama said.
According to her, she was at a certain school giving a talk when she received messages in her inbox about the story. She did not pay heed to them initially. But the messages kept coming so she had to check out the story for herself. It was then that she realized the websites and blogs were saying such stuffs about her when she had not said such a thing.
When asked what she wanted the bloggers and news websites to do, Ama said all that she wants them to do is take down the story from their blogs/websites, write a rejoinder, and apologize.
We are yet to see if these journalists will exhibit enough maturity and come out and apologize to the actress or not.
Check out what one of these blogs did below.
