The biggest concert for the year 2015, Tigo Ghana Meets Naija comes off on Saturday, May 23 at the Accra International Conference Center where three of Ghana’s biggest acts, Sarkodie, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy will face Nigeria’s Mavin Crew.
After 4 successful shows in the previous years, this year’s event dubbed “Unleashing Unlimited Music” promises to be the biggest as the event celebrates its 5th year.
Before the stars from both countries storm stage to battle, we bring to you an in-depth profile of two of the acts Ghanaians will see on stage – Sarkodie and Reekado Banks from the Mavins Crew.
Sarkodie
Known in real life as Michael Owusu Addo, Sarkodie is arguably one of Ghana’s finest talents on the bloc. He is a recording artist, entertainer, and brand ambassador. In 2012, he won the BET Awards for “Best International Act Africa”. Many Ghanaians recognize him as one of the Ghana’s leading hip hop and hip life artiste in the country.
He is considered one of the major proponents of the Azonto genre. Sarkodie often raps in his native language; Twi, and is considered a “multifaceted rapper” due to the various musical styles he possess.
In 2010, Sarkodie received many awards and nominations ranging from “Artist of the Year” to “Album of the Year”.
His sophomore album, Rapperholic, was the recipient of 3 Ghana Music Awards from 12 nominations. He is a brand ambassador for Samsung Mobile. In 2013, he signed an endorsement deal with FanMilk Ghana. Sarkodie is currently in partnership with Tigo Telecommunications Ghana, a brand that sponsored the 2013 Rapperholic tour. He has his own clothing line called “Sark by Yas clothing line”.
He was ranked 8th on Forbes and Channel O’s 2013 list of the Top 10 Richest African Artistes. He is the first ever Ghanaian to win the “Best International Act: Africa” at the BET Awards. Sarkodie has had the privilege of performing on the same stage with international musicians such as T-Pain, Movado, Trey Songz, and Ludacris among others. He has a large fan base in Africa and is considered one of the most celebrated musical icons to hail from Ghana.
He has to his credit three albums: 2009: Makye, 2012: Rapperholic and 2014: Sarkology.
Some of the recent hits of Sarkodie include ‘Whin Fi Me’, ‘Adonai’, ‘Megye Wo Girl’ and many others.
‘Obidi’ as he is fondly called has collaborated with some of Africa’s top artistes including M.anifest, D.banj, Wizkid, Efya, Ice prince, Tiw Savage, Efya, D-B lack, Aka, Burna Boy, Stonebwoy, Obrafour, Shatta Wale among others.

Reekado Banks
The Marvin Records signee joined the record label in 2014 when he was a History and Strategic student of the University of Lagos. Born Solomon Ayoleyi Hanniel, Reekado Banks is a gifted singer, rapper and song writer whose contribution to the Mavins Crew cannot be underrated.
He went by the stage name Spicy prior to his record deal with the aforementioned label. Reekado Banks during the 2014 Headies was declared the Rookie of the Year.
He joined the Marvin Records when his brother submitted some of his songs to the label in an online talent search.
Hit songs of Reekado include “Turn It Up” which featured Tiwa Wavage, Don Jazzy’s produced song “Katapot , “Chop Am”, and many others. Reekado Banks has also worked with his label mates to release the collaborative singles “Dorobucci”, “Adaobi”, “Arise” and “Looku Looku”.
