For some reason the religion Islam is set up to oppose any value that advocates freedom of the individual and a society.
The laws under Sharia are oppressive, limiting the personal freedoms of people, especially women. The issues this religion has with free speech are so documented it seems redundant to go into it again.
Two gunmen over the weekend shot up an art competition featuring images of Mohammed. The two turned up at the Curtis Culwell Centre in Garland, Dallas, where the contest was taking place, and opened fire.
According to NY Daily News, they injured a security officer, but got killed moments later in a brief fire fight with Garland PD.
The gunmen were identified as two roommates from Phoenix, Arizona, who were well known to the FBI as having been radicalised.
The contest, organised by a group known as Stop Islamisation of America, was organised as a response to the Charlie Hebdo attacks. Knowing there was a probability of another attack, additional security was hired to keep such a possible occurrence at bay.
And somehow predictably, these gunmen made the attacks. It seems astonishing that just a drawing of a long dead illiterate shepherd, whose real features are probably not even known, can cause humans to take up arms and kill other humans for it.
But then all reason is suspended when faith comes into the equation, no? At least these are two zealots who wouldn’t hurt anyone else in the name of religion ever again.
