Ghana’s senior U-23 team the Black Meteors beat Liberia 2-0 in the first leg Olympic qualifier in Tamale over the weekend.
Ghana was embarking on the first step of what would be a long journey if they’re to make an appearance at Rio 2016, and they handled it with ease, dispatching the Junior Lone Stars 2-0 in Tamale.
A goal in each half from Dauda Mohammed and Kennedy Ashia was all that was needed to give Ghana the priceless win.
With their home nation in turmoil in the aftermath of the Ebola crisis, Ghana would host the second leg as well- that game slated for the Ohene Djan stadium in Accra on May 2.
Qualification would send Ghana through, were Congo Brazzaville’s Olympic side would be waiting for the Black Meteors.
