Ghanaian rapper-Kwaw Kese has today been sentenced for his crime of smoking weed—and shockingly, he has been sentenced to prison for just a DAY with a fine of GHc 1, 200.
Kwaw Kese was arrested in Kumasi on 22nd November, 2014 for smoking weed. He was then thrown into jail while awaiting trial.
After two failed attempts to secure a bail, he was finally granted bail on health grounds on 30th December, 2014. In between going to court and his music, Kwaw has taken on a campaign to help various Ghanaian prisoners by bringing to light the harsh prison conditions through advocacy—and improve the life of inmates with donations.
At least, the court has shown that, no one is above the law—and that smoking of weed remains a criminal offence in Ghana.
Kwaw will be release tomorrow…
