Only in Africa | Defeated Nigerian Governorship Candidate Removes Transformer He Had Donated to the Community

Talk about sour grapes!

Senator Teslim Folarin stood on the ticket of the People’s Democratic Party in last weekend’s Nigerian gubernatorial elections, seeking election as Oyo State Governor. Unfortunately for him, he finished fourth.

Prior to the election, he had donated a transformer to Sabo, a township in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. Presumably, it was a quid pro quo arrangement that the townspeople did not honour when the election results came out showing he had finished as lowly as fourth!

So, according to Nigeria’s Daily Trust, the townspeople woke up one early morning to realise the transformer being carted away by aides of the candidate.

Angered, the townspeople called on a known associate of the Senator to demand an explanation, and it was then that moves were made to return the transformer to them. But the townspeople had seemingly had a change of heart, and vowed they would not take it back.

Amazing. The mind of the African is a totally different thing altogether. Even if the senator hadn’t sanctioned the move, it’s troubling enough that there are people, presumably young guys; who believe that such an action was the right course to take.
