Religious extremism rears its ugly head once again; this time in an attack on young future leaders over some frivolous issue.
Masked gunmen attacked Garissa University College in North Eastern Kenya earlier this morning. The University is near the Somali border and the perpetrators are believed to have been members of the Al-Shabab militant group.
BBC reports they attacked the main gate, shot the guards and stormed the university. Numbering about five, they set off explosions and fired indiscriminately.
Two guards are confirmed dead, with as many as 30 students believed injured. The gunmen have holed themselves up in the University premises and troops have surrounded the University trying to flush them out.
You would recall Ghanaian author Kofi Awoonor died when he was victim to one of Al-Shabab’s terrorist attacks; the one on Kenya’s Westgate mall that killed 67 people.
Hopefully they’re flushed out soon and arrested or killed…
