When a country like Ghana does not know how to make good use of its rich resources, begging is what it resorts to.
Over the years, one major problem the Ghana government has been facing is the inability to provide Ghanaians with constant electricity. There has not been a single day that Ghanaians do not complain bitterly about this unbearable situation, yet the government has failed to provide a solution.
The constant outcry and demonstrations by frustrated and angry Ghanaians have not even pushed the sitting government to do something about the situation.
Easter is just around the corner and it’s expected that power consumption will be high since a lot of people will engage in activities that will require them to use electricity.
It is in view of this that the Ghana Grid Company (GridCo), Ghana’s power transmission utility company is putting things in place to get help from Ghana’s neighboring country, Cote D’Ivoire.
The company will be relying on Cote D’Ivoire for electricity power in order to keep lights on during Easter.
The Systems Control Manager of GRIDCo, Mr Frank Otchere, who was on TV3’s Newsday said the company is trying to get assistance from La Cote d’Ivoire for them to give them some supplementary power supply.
According to Mr Otchere, should Cote D’Ivoire accept their plea, Ghanaians are going to experience a longer duration of power supply than it has been in the past weeks.
As it stands, many parts of the country, especially Accra, are experiencing 24 hours of blackout with only 12 hours of power supply with some experiencing even more than 24 hours of total blackout.
It can be remembered that, Ghana bought 80 megawatts of power from Cote D’Ivoire during the just ended African Cup of Nations in order to help Ghanaians watch the Ghana – Equatorial Guinea match and now it’s about to go on a begging spree for electricity.
Ghana now begs Cote D’Ivoire for power—what a shame!
