Another One? Atheist Blogger Hacked To Death In Bangladesh | This Is The Second Incident In One Month

When religious extremism gets the best of people, and other people have to die just because of the opinions they profess.

One thing I don’t get is that these religions are supposed to get the best out of man. It’s supposed to curb our excesses, keep us honest; yet all we get is the worst of people. Committing atrocities in the name of their religions and not realising the irony of actions that do not represent what their religion is supposed to stand for.

Maybe it’s because the major religions all contain stories of excessive wickedness on the part of God, and thus people do not really see the problem with following suit, especially if they feel they are defending their faith.

Whatever the reason, this bigotry and hate religion fuels that can lead to such actions is so unfortunate; and has no place in this modern world.

A Times of India report indicates another blogger has been hacked to death in Bangladesh. Two men have been arrested by police in conjunction with the attack, which was believed to have occurred because of the blogger’s work.

Washiqur Rahman was a 27 year old atheist blogger, who was known for railing against religious fundamentalism. According to police, “he was brutally hacked to death this morning with big knives just 500 yards from his home”

The suspects were arrested whilst trying to flee the scene.

This is the 2nd incident in Bangladesh in just over one month, after Avijit Roy’s case in February. He was also an atheist blogger who had to die because of his railing against religion.

Roy was a progressive, and his Mukto-Mona site is a sight to behold; it shows all the best of the human intellect when properly applied. The very thing religious extremism goes against, as at its core it strips people of their reason and leaves hitherto sane people committing insane acts.

Condolences to the families of these two, and all others who have died for pointing out the fallacies that religion is riddled with.
