TOP 10 Most Influential Ghanaian Music Artists of All Time | Samini In…Shatta Wale Out

Am I the only one who thinks this guy is still a very underrated musician or what? It’s crazy and someone isn’t doing justice to branding that brother. Yeah yeah yeah, he plays shows, so what?

He should have been all over Africa by now. The whole continent needs to share this blessing with Ghana. The first time I heard a song from him I was in a car going home from school and this Aso song was really a distraction because prior to the song coming on, I was deep in thought, it probably had to do with a girl breaking my heart or something of the sort (I mean I was a teenager, what else will have been bothering me).

So I switched over to the song and the song seemed very appropriate. I fell in love with the song! That song in my view has entered the annals of timeless Ghanaian songs, it’s still golden even today. I later got to find out on the Morning Ride show on Metro TV some few weeks later that the person behind the Aso song was called Kwabena Kwabena—George Kwabena Adu.

My reaction to the interview was ‘mtcheew, which auto tunes nine day wonder too is this one!’. As if to answer my question, he replied to the host’s request to do an acoustic version of the song with his guitar. I don’t remember anything after that. I became a convert. That guy’s voice is a treasure which hasn’t been fully exploited at all.

He has the potential to sell a different brand of our highlife; pioneering a sub highlife genre with that sultry vocal ability. Anyway, he filled the eighth spot not for his team’s terrible marketing prowess but because of his talent and tune (well maybe they don’t see the kind of talent you have, I beg you give me a call we need to start firing a lot of people). If you are a true music head, you will never place an instrument playing musician below this rank.

  1. Please Gcc. I don’t know why you’re making this site complicated, why all this scattered photos? Including the continue options? Please it’s boring wai! I believe the old style wasn’t bad!

  2. Given your introduction on what it means to be influential, Daddy Lumba and Kojo Antwi should be 1 and 2 straight up. Maybe interchangeable but 1 and 2. I don’t care about the rest.

  3. I listen to Shatta’s songs n a fan, (not a die hard fan tho) but I don’t see nothing wrong with him not being on this list cs I still think he’s yet to be influential?

  4. I totally agree with this list, Akwasi your understanding of music is quite broad, I think the title is misleading because Shatta Wale has no business in such a list. He might be in the 30’s if there was a 30-man list
