2. Every Job is a Job, Don’t Ask Questions
The first thing I really learnt when I moved to Europe is never to ask the question; what job do you do. I have several friends I have known for many years—and even though we speak while they are on their way to work, at work or from work, I do not really know exactly what their jobs entail.
Do not get me wrong, they are not into any dodgy business—they have tax paying jobs but the truth is; they may not be proud to tell you or would not want you to know. So why make them uncomfortable by asking?
When you find yourself abroad, every job is a job—this is not where foreigners have a lot of choice so every thing goes. If you are lucky to find a ‘decent’ job, then you are a King/Queen in your own right.
For most people, it’s not about the TYPE of job—but about how much they are paid compared to the person doing the most respected job back home. You will find Africans with even P.hd working as labourers or customer assistants, something they would never have done if they were back home.
Here, you must work to eat and therefore anything that will bring you food is worth protecting. You do not have the luxury of deciding which job you prefer as you may be able to do back home.
