The undisputed champion of ‘Africanism’ and the most hated President in Africa by the West-Robert Mugabe, the President of Zimbabwe has been chosen as AU chairman for a year.

Robert Mugabe, who is 90, drew applause when he denounced colonialism at a meeting in Addis Ababa.He also spoke of the “scourge of terrorism” from Boko Haram and said there needed to be “lasting solutions” to the issue in Nigeria and Cameroon.

Mr Mugabe has led his country since independence in 1980—and he doesn’t seem to be ready to step down. He has stated in the past that, despite his age he feels like a young man.

Currently, Mugabe is under several travel bans imposed by the US and the EU because of political violence and intimidation in Zimbabwe.

Mugabe’s selection comes at a time the West is on his neck—perhaps an indication by African leaders that they stand with Mugabe and his ideologies…
