SHARE AN OPINION: KKD And The 19 Year Ewuraffe Thompson | Who Has Lost BIG in Life?

Published by
Miss Ewuraffe Orleans Thompson right and KKD

At long last, the 19 year old girl, Ewuraffe Orleans Thompson, who caused the arrest of communication and media expert, Kwasi Kyei Darkwah popularly known as KKD on 27th December, 2014 – following a rape complaint against him, has come out to state that she is no longer interested in pursuing the case. However, the case is not over yet – it’s still in court.

From whichever angle you chose to look at the case or analyze it, was your prerogative right! In every situation, there is cause and effect. In this case, the cause was that KKD met the lady at an event and had seks with her in the hotel’s washroom – which later turned into a rape allegation.

So now, let’s look at the effect – and I mean the long term effect the whole rape story would have on Ewuraffe Orleans Thompson and Kwasi Kyei Darkwah. Which of them is at a big disadvantage in life in the long run?

One school of thought that speaks for KKD claims KKD has finished paying his dues in life and in his chosen field – media, communication, tourism, art, marketing, and branding, therefore, he is like a brand that has reached its peak and thus has to decline so he has nothing great to lose!

He can boast of a house both in Ghana and abroad, fleets of cars, all the nicest costumes and perfumes, and has two grownup children who are all doing well in the field of communication. As far as the rape case is concerned, it doesn’t seem like he will be convicted—except that there is a hovering speculation of out of court settlement.

Due to that, some giant companies or clients of his may still work with him or contract him for what he knows best doing.

Another school of thought who speak for the Ewuraffe might also posit that Ghanaians generally have short memories – give this story a month and majority will forget there was even a rape case involving one Ewuraffe and KKD.

Also, Ewuraffe is not a popular girl so most people may not recognize her if she is walking on the streets of Accra or enters any office to do business or seek any corporate help. Nonetheless, as long as the World Wide Web exists, if you Google anything concerning Kwasi Kyei Darkwah aka KKD or Ewuraffe Orleans Thompson in the next 50 years, their rape case will pop up.

In 1998, new broke out that American President, Bill Clinton, had raped one intern in the Whitehouse by name Monica Lewinsky. After all the back and forth, it later became clear that Clinton actually slept with Monica but it was a consensual one.

“Sure, my boss took advantage of me, but I will always remain firm on this point: it was a consensual relationship. Any ‘abuse’ came in the aftermath, when I was made a scapegoat in order to protect his powerful position” Monica emphasized.

For the repercussions, Clinton had his fair share of public odium likewise Monica Lewinsky – amidst all sorts of conspiracy theories cooked by journalists and politicians on the case. Clinton lost massive respect from the World Diplomatic eye. Women activists pooh-poohed him. Cartoon/animation artists made funny animations of him – as rapist young ladies should not dare get closer to.

In the long term, Clinton’s wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, has been vying to become the President of America but in every attempt, the Clinton-Monica Lewinsky rape saga is used against her campaign. The rape stigma always stains her political campaigns.

On the part of Monica Lewinsky, the scandal and her ensuing notoriety, after 15 years, has had clear repercussions in her personal life – as her friends have gone off to marry and have children, whilst she regularly gets rejected from job opportunities. At a point, she had to flee the US to England to get her Masters in Social Psychology at the London School of Economics.

KKD and Ewuraffe – – who has lost or stand to lose big in the long term? Kindly share a thought. Let’s get talking! Until then…….MOTWUM!!
