Bill Cosby Has Been Accused By A Million Women of Rape: But is There More To The Story Than Meets The Eye?

Everyone knows who Bill Cosby is. There can be no doubt the groundbreaking nature of the Cosby Show that run with the affable comedian as its titular character.

Within the past month alone, about nine women have come out to relate stories of sexual assault suffered at the hands of Mr. Cosby. The increasingly scary stories paint the picture of a predator who has no regard for consequence and delights in asserting dominance over those he violates.

And this latest wave is not appearing in a vacuum. In 2005 a similar case was being built against the comedian, which had the appearance of a class action. Though with one plaintiff, they had lined up 13 anonymous women, all of whom were prepared to testify under oath to suffering abuse at the hands of Cosby. The case was abruptly settled in November 2005. There have been numerous allegations also, though no serious trial has ever emanated from any of these instances.

The cast of accusers this time round is a varied one, from celebrities to lowlife nobodies, but all of whom have one story in common. The dates of the encounters also vary hugely enough for the deduction to be made, if true, of a systematic, probably pathological disorder.

Within all these the comedian himself has kept quiet as an avalanche sweeps over his life. Recent projects with NBC and Netflix has both been cancelled, he had two late night talk show appearances also cancelled within the period the allegations surfaced. He also got asked about it during an interview, but he shrugged off the question saying he does not talk about it.

So what exactly is going on here? Do we have on our hands a seemingly loveable man whose calm exterior hides a nasty core, a true Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde? Or do we have a question of a victim of circumstance, people seeking to cash in on the inevitable media and public brouhaha surrounding such a shocking story?

Certainly it is an alternative worth considering in the purely academic sense. We have people talking of abuses from as far back as 1967 to as late as circa 2004. You would think more people would have come out with their stories in the intervening period. From a certain angle it seems like a tidal wave started by Hannibal Burress (the comedian who called out Cosby as a rapist during his routine last month, precipitating the first published interview containing allegations on November 16), and now everyone and their mother are rushing in to bring their story.

Certainly that’s the position Cosby and his attorneys would be taking should there ever be a trial. Already his lawyer is working tirelessly to discredit some of the stories, as well as the women narrating them. Personally, I don’t think that alternative has much traction.

The biggest clincher for me is the nature of all these stories. Cosby seems to have an MO, or a method of operations. It is something all serial criminals have, and there’s enough variety to each event that one cannot say they’re all just copying what one said.

Also considering 12 women were gathered as far back as 2005, of whom only two are amongst the current accusers, then it seems there are more people out there and we should prepare for fresh Cosby allegations to be an almost daily thing now.

The allegation could be made of some of the women as attention or fame seeking, but some are established stars in their own rights with families who stand to gain little by airing such dirty laundry in public, unless there was a desire to gain some closure or get a criminal behind bars.

It is possible; that a man as influential as Bill Cosby has gained enough enemies over time that something like this can be orchestrated against him. But the scope seems too wide, the cast too varied, for it to be seen as a viable deduction.

I think in this case, as in most cases; the fabled duck test reigns supreme. ‘If it walks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck’. With the evidence at hand, the most likely assumption is that Bill Cosby is a serial rapist; the alternative takes a bigger stretch of logic to make viable.

But with humans, you never really know. We are a wily species, Homo sapiens.

So what do you think?

  1. Bill Cosby has made some serious enemies in the last couple of years because he stood up and denounced the entitlement attitude of some blacks in the US. He also condemned the lack of black men taking responsibility at home and raising of the kids. In the black corner of America those are sacred cows you don’t touch. I believe there is an orchestrated attempt to discredit him. If you read the testimony of some of these women, there is a lot that doesn’t make sense. Would any woman go back on a second date with a man who rape her? Would any woman continue to see the man who raped her on their first meeting? Janice Dickenson, provided polaroid photos of cosby in a robe, now she claims she took the picture before she passed out from the roofie. Would a rapist have allowed her to take a picture using not a hidden camera but the big polaroid camera? Would cosby have allowed her to leave with the pictures? Wouldn’t he have taken out the pictures out of the after Janice passed out? Look in the age of social media many people can accuse you of stuff and get away with it. When they know that the court of public opinion is more powerful than any courtroom. And don’t believe testifying under oath is a measure of their truthfulness. Go to the list of false accusations and testimonies that have landed many innocent people in jail. There are many. The new trend in North America that is used to silence men is the accusation of rape. Go on a date, have consensual sex and forget to call the next day, the lady can cry rape and that will be the end of you. The feminists have already plowed the ground with something called the rape culture. Translation, every man is potential rapist so all a woman has to say is I was raped and the race is on. By the time you are exonerated, the woman would have checked herself into a hospital and claim mental issues. She will never face charges because of the ‘trauma’ she supposedly suffered. For a man in North America, you only hope is before you stick it in record the whole event. Else be ready to be charged with rape. The feminist have made it so that one cry of rape, true or untrue, will send the whole battalion on you. Your reputation will take an nose dive and never recover. Such is the insanity that is going on here. Hannibal Burris started this as a bad joke, but remember he’ll get his one day.
