Survey Reveals 76% of Ghanaians Believe this Government Has FAILED

Most people would admit that the myriad of problems plaguing Ghana now is unprecedented, at least since the inception of the Fourth Republic. Complaining about how things have taken a turn for the worse is now the norm, and unsurprisingly a poll of some Ghanaians has reflected this sentiment.

Afrobarometer conducted a survey of 2,400 Ghanaians, and 76% believe this government has failed. To further compound woes, 82% felt the country was moving in the wrong direction.

Approval ratings is a big deal for politicians in advanced countries, unfortunately it has never really taken root here. A poll like this can serve that purpose and I can confidently say it reflects the feelings of majority of Ghanaians.

Widespread corruption, management of the economy, ‘dumsor’ and the like are just three big issues I can call of the top of my head.

Just this week as much as eight labour organisations have announced a simultaneous strike in a move that’s as unprecedented as it is indicting.

Other notable results; 18% believe economic mismanagement is the most important problem which should be solved, 12% going for education and electricity whilst 10% went for health.

Their last poll held in 2012 had 57% as the figure for those feeling the country was moving in the wrong direction. Fast forward to now and it’s a whopping 82%.

Other ones include 72% wanting an improvement in living standards of the poor, 76% favouring job creation, and 81% hoping for price reduction across board.

If these approval ratings are anything to go by, this government would not survive the next election. Maybe that’s the kick up the backside needed to start taking things seriously.

What initiatives are we taking our selves to have a better Ghana. We plug all gutters with filth and when it rains and there is a flood, guess who caused it…the government….
We overload our cars put unneccesary weight on roads, damage them…guess who caused it….government…We need to change our lazy attitude towards everything and stop blaming the government for everything.

We are dealing with government economic mismanagement. Why don’t the government go under an IMF programme because on their own they haven’t shown the commitment to do the right things.

      • Well Obama will not spend thousands of dollars on sanitary pads whilst there are more important issues that needs that funding, he will not pocket the nation’s money etc…. consider all these factors next time before you make such a comment. NONSENSE!

        • Ghana ni you have comprehension issue eh? Or you don’t know what you are talking about. Do you actually believe the IMF loan was only for tampons? How dumb are you? This was a package that includes schools and school supplies, uniforms and even shoes. And yet the simplistic mind heard tampons is therefore stuck at tampons. Come into the light Ghana ni. You have been hiding under the rock for too long.

      • That’s the past time of Ghanaians. Blame the game. How many governments provide public latrines in the west? But Ghanaians expect that. Most Ghanaians don’t pay taxes and yet will scream ‘Aban'(government) should fix the roads, the sewers and the filth. If any western government was to face the nasty attitude of Ghanaians it will fold. You are absolutely right. Ghana’s problem is 75% Ghanaians and the rest is the government. How do you lead a troop of selfish, rude, ungrateful and despicable group of human beings? You cannot. Except perhaps through violence. But in their new found democracy, yentia obiaa is the Ghanaian mantra. We do what we want and don’t you dare criticise. And with their new found voodoo Christianity, they believe they are righteous and divine. How does one combat such delusions of grandeur? You cannot. In my opinion herding kittens will be much easier than leading Ghanaians. Ghanaians need a brute to lead them. Mahama is too soft and decent for this band of misfits and retrogressives.

  7. And 80% of Ghanaians have failed as well. They have failed to behave like citizens of a democracy. In a democracy a citizen has certain obligations to the state. Ghanaians have failed miserably when it comes to doing their part for the state. The wanton corruption is an act against the state. The destruction of public property and space is a an act against the state. The incessant noise and pollution is an act against the state. Lack of work ethics is an act against the state. Embracing superstitions and therefore discarding solutions that will develop the country is an act against the state. I can go on but you get the idea. Ghanaians are destroying the state by their stupidity, selfishness and shallow mindednesss. The failure of the state is therefore the failure of the Ghanaian. When Ghanaians realize that the enemy is them, then the rebuilding of the nations will begin. Until that time Ghana will fail regardless of its leaders.
