Majid Michel celebrated his birthday few weeks ago. Well, he his 34 years old now. His friends organized a surprise birthday for him in far away U.S.A and It was during this moment that Nollywood screen goddess Stella Damasus declared unequivocally that Majid Michel is the best actor on the continent.
This is might be a harmless compliment meant to boost Majid’s already bloated ego, but I know perfectly well this would ruffle the composure of lots of the actors in the industry especially against the background that Africa has a huge array of stars who are considered far better than Majid Michel.
Majid rose to prominence in the series, ‘Things We Do for Love’ in 2000. The series was very popular with the youth and became a huge success. He played the role of a womanizer who wrecked girls’ heart into shreds. ‘Things We Do for Love’ also launched the career of Adjetey Annang, popularly called Pusher, Vincent Maccauley and the adorable Jackie Appiah.
Majid’s major breakthrough came when he featured alongside Van Vicker in ‘Divine Love’ a film written by Abdul Salam Mumuni. He has gone on to feature in a lot of films—both in his native land Ghana and Nigeria.
Without a shred of doubt, Majid Michel is a very good actor, but being the best in Africa is what I consider a little bit of an exaggeration.
And to think the flattery is coming from a very popular and versatile actress whom I admire so much is what has compounded my perplexity. I wish I knew the basis of Stella’s evaluation. What are the criteria to determine the degree of one’s superiority over another in the acting arena? What about Mike Ezuronye and Ramsey Noah whom I hold in high esteem? Or even Adjetey Annang?
The question is; do you think the assessment of Majid Michel by Stella Damasus was within the realm of credibility or was it meant to be a birthday gift? And who in your estimation is the best actor on the African continent?

Chris or whoever wrote this, u got a real issue….and after comparing majid’s talent with mike ezuruonye (whom I adoore soo much) I knew u really need to shut the hell up sometimes. How the hell do u compare mike to majid? Yes mike is talented,yes Ramsey is a phenomenon in his own way but I tell u hands down, majid beats them all. And I’m always skeptic about ghanaian actors(heck african actors in general) . U wana know how good majid is, I’m sure you’ve seen somewhere in africa but please go back and watch that movie again. ..forget the production flaws and focus on majid. Hands down the best performance of all time. Majid has a gift which stands out all the time and that’s his….versatility. he’s able to go from one character to a whole different character in a split second. He’s played it all,from the beast down to somewhere in africa. I don’t see Ramsey doing anything with that role. NOTHING.
