Scotland has voted NO to stay in the United Kingdom after voters decisively rejected independence. But I am not shocked and saw this coming…
As Peter Hitchens recently wrote “the poor Scots are threatened with currency collapse, bankruptcy, irrelevance and isolation” and for such bad tactics, the only reasonable real option that the Scots had in my estimation is a NO vote.
Who would have the balls to vote YES in the face of all these threats and surely, if the UK holds a referendum over its EU membership, I am sure the EU will employ this ridiculous tactics which works.
Currently, results in from all 32 council areas had the “No” side winning with 2,001,926 votes over 1,617,989 for “Yes”.
Following this, Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond has called for unity and urged the unionist parties to deliver on more powers and UK Prime Minister David Cameron has come out to say, he was delighted the UK would remain together and said the commitments on extra powers would be honoured.
Mr Cameron said the three main unionist parties at Westminster would now follow through with their pledge of more powers for the Scottish Parliament.
Also, he announced that Lord Smith of Kelvin, who led Glasgow’s staging of the Commonwealth Games, would oversee the process to take forward the commitments, with new powers over tax, spending and welfare to be agreed by November, and draft legislation published by January.
So it is not all bad for the Scots as they stand to make good gains from this referendum, even though to me, the tactics used by the UK and other NO supporting States were pretty undemocratic…
Good for you Scotland! Being politically independent does not necessarily make it easy or wise to manage your own affairs; ene if you can…check with Ghana, I disagree with Osagyefo Nkrumah. We are still not able to manage our own affairs as Ghanaian. Devolving for powers to the Scots parliament and still being under the UK could be better.
Scotland chose positive change/reforms rather than empty substitution of leadership ….Can Ghana and the rest of African learn any lessons?
what has this gotten to do with Ghana or Africa; or you do you want to relate it to non-performing Mahama who has no developmental agenda but only edebe keke.
The man is speaking sense and ur sitting down here having ur feelings in…smh reason why we’re far behind and will always be. More loyal to emotions than being wise mtcheeeeew
SCOTS are COWARDS.
Piko, on Ghana’s current leadership, your words not mine. But me ask you, how do you think Ghana would have been by now if we had still not attained political independence?
England and Scotland are better off together , we all know we stand to loose a lot when England breaks up with Scotland ,agriculture wise it would have been a challenge
