According to a board member on the Cinematograph Exhibition Board of Control, the board has finally approved the raining controversial movie from Kumawood – ‘Castro Amanehunu’ so the filmmaker can go ahead and release the movie.
A movie poster bearing the production name, Odame Productions, was seen on several social media platforms in the past week titled ‘Castro Amanehunu.’ Already, the country is still in a moaning state with respect to a celebrated musician by name Castro and a female Janet who went jet skiing in Ada in the company of other friends but are missing or feared dead.
Many have therefore condemned the action of the filmmaker over the week because they suspect the film is or can be a direct replication of the Castro-Janet tragedy. The Film Producers Association of Ghana FIPAG, have thus come out to condemn the filmmaker’s initiative – claiming it’s against morals of our society, culture and our believe system so they won’t allow the movie to be released.
However, revered broadcaster and a member of the Cinematograph Exhibition Board of Control, Mr. Ken Addy, reacting to the issue has said “the board has approved the movie so it can be released. We did so on Wednesday (13th August, 2014)”
Asked why, Mr. Addy told host, Christian Agyei Frimpong, that, “the name Castro is a household name. It is not the preserve of anyone for which reason no filmmaker can’t use. Secondly, the storyline is very different from the Castro and Janet tragedy we are all talking about or know.
We consulted a legal luminary and he also confirmed that from legal lens, there is nothing wrong with the movie for which reason we shouldn’t pass it for being released unto the movie market for sale. The Filmmaker has said he is indeed coming out with the movie but failed to give out the storyline of the movie.
Breaking protocol, Mr. Addy gave a ‘morsel’ of the movie. “In the movie, a young character is called Castro. His father is called Asamoah Gyan, and the younger sister of this young Castro, is called Janet” Mr. Addy revealed. He went further to state that the Cinematograph Exhibition Board of Control is the only outfit mandated by law to refuse a movie from being released.
“FIPAG has no right whatever to ban this movie or cause for it not to be released in any way! FIPAG is not the authority that allows movies to be released in this country. They have no legal right or powers to do so! The filmmaker can go ahead and release the movie” Mr. Addy ended.
Cinematograph Exhibition Board of Control is the sole body mandated to review both local and international movies, classify them and give the green light for them to be released. They also review movie posters before filmmakers can paste them in town as advertising tools.
The cinematograph board constitutes various organizations in the country, including: the police, the children`s commission, Muslim Commission, Christian Council and Members from GNAT.
Between the Cinematograph Exhibition Board of Control and FIPAG, who do you back? Who is speaking law and who is speaking emotions or morality? Morality and law, which should prevail in this case? Share a though. Until then…MOTWUM!!
So they didnt even change the names? And how can the board approve of such a movie? Ok, I understand those three name(Castro, Asamoah G & Janet) are common names and it could be anyone in GH but please……….
Maybe i need to watch this movie to confirm that the storyline is totally far from what I know concerning Castro and co.
