Ghana in Danger of Being Banned By FIFA

As many people predicted, the Government’s three member committee set up to investigate the Black Stars following the world cup fiasco has attracted the attentions of FIFA, and unless the GFA can soothe the fears of FIFA that there would be no interference in their work by this committee, Ghana runs the risk of being banned from all football related activities.

The President earlier this month set up a three member committee to investigate the Black Stars poor showing at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. This week new sports Minister Mahama Ayariga announced that the committee had been upgraded to a ‘commission of enquiry’, with powers to compel people to tell the truth, as an oath would be sworn before testimony is given.

This development, it seems, is worrying to the world football governing body, and they wrote to the GFA seeking clarification on the powers of this commission.

The letter, signed by Deputy General Secretary Markus Kattner, read “We have learnt from media reports that the Presidency of the republic of Ghana has appointed a Committee of Enquiry and Investigation into the Black Stars participation to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The composition and the competences of the said Commission are unclear. Provided the reports are true we deem it important to clarify from the beginning the procedures and to ensure that the GFA can operate without interference as required by FIFA statutes. Under this circumstance we kindly ask you to provide us with a report at your earliest convenience.”

As anyone one with half a brain would tell you, FIFA deeply frowns on governmental interference in sports, and whether you believe the law makes sense or not they enforce it rigidly and across board. Just after the world cup ended, neighbours Nigeria had a similar problem, and FIFA came down hard, banning them from all football competitions. It is one of FIFA’s most applied statuses, and unless the GFA can explain itself satisfactorily, Ghana could be exempt from all FIFA competitions going forward.

In case any ban is enforced, the team to be directly affected would be the Under 20 women’s team, who are currently preparing for their world cup which starts early next month.

It would be a real shame if after they made a shambles of our world cup participation, this desperate attempt from the government to save face gets us banned.

The GFA are just as guilty, but they hold FIFA’s protection and little can be done to interfere with their operations. But then, when the government officials involved in the fiasco have not been held accountable for their actions, what gives them the right to try to ask the GFA to be accountable?.

Until Nyantakyi and the numerous GFA officials who are just as greedy and clueless as bulldogs in a strip club are fired, I say FIFA pls go ahead and ban us…it will help stop monies from landing in the wrong hands…Ghana needs a major do over. Unfortunately, the young folks with potential are too busy fighting over naked pictures of pseudo celebrities n not focusing on important issues that help build a nation

  2. Ghana in ‘Danger’? Erase that word. what danger? whether they are banned or not do they put food on any ordinary Ghanaian’s table? it will save you the unnecessary screaming and disappointment. otherwise, i confess, that only the most respected Captain, Stephen Tornado Appiah can handle Black Stars to highest satisfaction.
