Being a celebrity or a public figure can be more hectic than carrying 10 bags of cement at the same time. This is due to the fact that the sort of attention the media gives to such ones cannot even be compared to the kind of attention a guy gives to a lady he loves.
Living a celebrity life in fact means one has exchanged a greater part of his/her privacy for fame. Anything that such individual engages in therefore becomes public concern. It is not only the media that loves to know virtually everything about celebrities but the public as well (whether good or bad) and that is where rumours always go flying.
Nobody actually cares if my dad decides to wear a tattered shirt to town. On the other hand, everybody seems to be concerned if a celebrity runs his/her car over an ant. In fact, they give the media and the general public something to talk about. Without them, the entertainment industry will be boring to a greater extent.
Humans have inherent love for negative news and gossip. It is a 100% fact which nobody can refute it. Who really cares when Majid Michel decides to use his money to cater for the needy? The prominence that will be given to such news by the public will not be the same as when the same Majid Michel steals okro from the market. The media, based on this human inclination, mostly feed on downbeat news. Mind you, the media do not run a non-profit organisation so they will definitely go for what will sell.
Over the years, celebrities have not always had it smooth, and as long as the media exists, they will always be the talk of town if the need be. It will be silly on the part of a celebrity to sing halleluiah and dance azonto when favourable news concerning him/her gets to the public domain but become angry when the bad publication hits the public.
I have come to the realisation that some Ghanaian celebrities do not really understand what being a celebrity is. By observing their ways, actions, and utterances, they prefer to be in news only for their good deeds or when they are working on some projects like premieres, album launch, setting up foundations and a whole lot. In fact, they want to control the news around them by seeking to only get the good news published.
That seems impossible, for you to be called a celebrity and not expect to be hit hard right in the head. If anything at all, most of these so-called celebrities do not even deserve to earn that title. Yet, they rush to become famous and not want to bear what goes along with it.
Let me do well to cite some few examples in which some so-called celebrities dealt with issues when they thought they were negatively report upon.
Somewhere last month, we carried out a story asking if Yvonne Okoro was almost broke, since she repeated a dress. Few hours after the article was published, Okoro took to her Instagram page to counterattack.
In relation to the same story, the unofficial mouthpiece of Yvonne Okoro, Sandra Ankobiah, also joined the train. A day after the occurrence, the television lawyer cum new attention seeking queen used the airtime given her by TV3 to throw insults at GhanaCelebrities.Com—a publicity we did not have to pa for on day time TV.
Why don’t these people (celebrities) come out and bash the media when they report something favourable about them? Sandra Ankobiah for instance has begged us in past and have called Chris-Vincent Agyapong Febiri (Editor of GhanaCelebrities.Com) to ask for publicity for her Fashion101 TV show—that was before the show dropped dead.
You cannot live a celebrity life and expect the media not to take a bite at you when something about you goes wrong. Take it or leave it, you are not the holiest and infallible person on the planet. Many rush to become famous but refuse accept what fame gives to them.
To the celebrities, if you know you cannot stand the heat, why don’t you retire from the game? After all, we don’t even know how relevant some of these so-called people are in the industry.
BAM! They need to know that being a celeb, ppl will always criticise you, there will be rumours about you and ppl will be in your business. They also need to know they dont have to respond to everything said about them.
GBAM too, lol. If you can’t take the heat get out of the kitchen. Most of these people we call celebrities are not even worth the title. What do they do? ashawo things
You said it all, one or two tv shows and they will start labeling themselves as celebrities with their dubai and vegas trips. We know they are all bunch of Ashawobiah roaming around the street of Accra.
This is so true. People love rumours and there will always be rumours about someone especially celebrities. Why go about fighting and responding except you have so much time and you dont know what to do with it. As I said already, some of these people are not worth being called celebrities
Our so called star’s are bunch of ignorant. On twitter some of them calls themselves celebrities, actor, actresses and philanthropist so why cant you take criticism on this title? To me those that always responds to critics are the guilty ones. Becca just proved her fans she’s very guilty. Okoro strongly define this whole article and Chris thanx for using her pic
Oko what? Who is Okoro, a celebrity too? …never heard of…
She’s a girl who claims to be an African. Okoro has been around but sucks in acting anyways.
Celebrities are also HUMAN BEINGS! Who do you think you are sitting behind your screens and talk all kind of lies and nonsense about someone who did nothing to you?!
thank you very much. ybouve said it all. who the hell do they think they are to criticize ithers
Once they remain celebrities then people will critize them regardless. AFter all is their fans that makes them who they are. Is a simple thing.
