Amidst the ongoing GFA and other Black Stars players’ brawl, Richard ‘Olele’ Kingston has come out from his shelves to speak…
The 2014 FIFA World Cup which is currently ongoing in Brazil saw the Black Stars of Ghana whipped out from the competition in the group stages. Many sports pundits believe the abysmal behaviour exhibited by the players caused their early exit. Others are of the view that the corrupt and greedy attitude of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) officials was the cause.
Before the Black Stars played their last group stage match with Portugal’s Selecção das Quinas, it was alleged that Sule Muntari had slapped an official. With regards to Sulley’s history, many assert that he has an attitudinal problem.
However, according to Richard Kingston, who had spent lot of time with the players in camp for various tournaments, Sulley Muntari has got no attitudinal problem. Speaking on Radio Gold yesterday, he made it known that “Sulley is a very cool person”. “He has not caused any problem in camp before”.
When he was posed with the question of what he thought might have led to the slap, Olele retorted: “I wasn’t there with them so I do not know what transpired between the officials and the players. Sulley is a very cool person but hates to be told lies. He doesn’t want to be cheated. I know Sulley and I know that if what he did was wrong on his part, he will come out and apologise. However, if it wasn’t his fault, he will never apologise. So let’s all wait and see.”
In subsequent questions relating to GFA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, Richard Kingston described him as a real gentleman who respects himself and others. According to the former Black Stars goalie, it is very difficult for him to put the blame on anyone, considering the personalities of the people in question.
Kingston further stated that, at certain tournaments, “we sometimes receive the money after we come back home. We the senior players in the team use to talk to the boys to have patience when our monies are being delayed. We (senior players) relay the concerns of the team to the FA officials. At times we do not allow Sulley to talk when we are having meeting with the officials. This is because, as a team, we had concluded on what to discuss with them and who to talk. But when what the officials seem to say do not sink well, Sulley jumps in and make his submissions”.
