Why Are People Finding Ellen DeGeneres’ Tweet About It Taking Her More ‘Than 32 Seconds to Look Up Where Ghana is’ Offensive?

Ellen

Some people have no sense of humor or probably do not understand what Ellen DeGeneres is reported to have tweeted during last night’s Ghana’s World Cup clash against USA…

It took the USA 32 seconds to score their first goal against Ghana and based on this, Ellen is said to have tweeted, saying, ‘Go USA! Fastest goal in U.S World Cup history in #USAvsGHANA game. 32 seconds! It took me longer to look up where Ghana is’..

I cannot see and do not find anything wrong with what she tweeted, yet, several Ghanaians have taken to social media to call her all sort of names—adding that she is ignorant for sending out that tweet.

What is ignorant about this tweet? If you want to look for Ghana on the internet, I bet it will take you more than 32 seconds to open up Google, type Ghana into the search bar and hit the enter key—and then wait for Google to produce a result.

Surely Ellen did not do the above, but all she meant was that, that goal was damn too quick—and we all agree it was. So what is offensive about this?

Before the Ghana Vrs USA match, I came across several eye-popping jokes being made by Ghanaians about USA and no one called them ignorant or said they were being offensive, yet we are calling Ellen unpleasant names for saying the truth…

If you are upset, better be upset with your coach and players and leave Ellen DeGeneres to celebrate USA’s win—and allow her to make whatever joke she wants to make.

It will take more than 32 seconds for you to even find Ghana in the dictionary!
