The President of the Film Producers Association of Ghana FIPAG, Mr. Asare Hackman, has come out to condemn the seeming attempt to entrench tribalism or tribal play in the naming of some sects of Ghana’s movie industry.
Reacting to the story GhanaCelebrities.Com posted on Wednesday, 8th May, 2014 headlined ‘Aside Kumawood, There is Vollywood and Tallywood – Is Ghana’s Movie Industry Turning into Tribal Play?’ on Accra based radio station, Chanel R’s ‘205 Total Entertainment,’ on today 9th May, 2014, Mr. Hackam said “Just last week I went to Tamale and told them (the filmmakers in the supposed Tallywood industry) that all these names are not necessary.
We have one Ghana so we should have one name, Ghana movie industry! If you travel abroad nobody knows or cares about Kumawood, Vollywood, Tallywood or whatever. In fact as we speak, I’ve heard another one coming from the Western region called Westernwood. They are also coming with full flight but it’s not necessary. We don’t need this!”
Placing some calls for verification, GhanaCelebrities.Com has gathered that truly some few filmmakers in the Western region of Ghana are planning on coming up with their own movie industry name – Westernwood.
Though this situation if entertained might or could breed needless tribalism in Ghana’s movie industry and the nation as a whole, a staunch reader of GhanaCelebrities.Com by name L. Tamakloe – from New Jersey begs to differ. Read what Mr. Tamakloe wrote to GhanaCelebrities.Com which was published earlier.

Mr. Hackman had told GhanaCelebrities.Com some months back that FIPAG shall be launching the official name of Ghana’s movie industry. In his opinion, he suggested Ghollywood. May be they – FIPAG should come out with that official name to forestall some of this tribal ‘mushroom’ movie names which will not take Ghana’s movie industry anywhere but rather, bring disunity and segregation between and amongst ourselves. Until then…..MOTWUM!!
