Do you want to be in news? Create a very powerful controversy. Controversy has gradually become the successful mantra everyone in the entertainment industry is following these days.

Humans in general hardly notice people who seem to be cool. Everyone in the entertainment industry wishes not to fade out from the game or not be recognised. It is therefore necessary for the publicist of a celebrity to employ some tactics that will generate a whole lot of news for the said celebrity to get people talking.

Like Chris Brown, Kanye West, Eminem, Snoop Lion, etc tagged as controversial, we also have certain musicians out here whose career gyrate around controversies. Let’s take a look at three prominent Ghanaian celebrities whose names are just synonymous to controversy.

Wanlov Da Kubolor

How many times have you heard Wanlov’s songs being played on Ghanaian radio stations before? His songs are way too explicit for public consumption. A song like ‘Beatrice’ cannot be played on any station.

Wanlov has always and continue to be at the centre of controversy when it comes to FOKN Bois. In 2011, the song ‘Thank God We Are Not A Nigerians” was released. This sparked controversies both in Ghana and in Nigeria, to the extent of compelling the Nigerians to come out with their own version of the song – “Thank God We Are Not Ghanaians”.

How can anyone forget about what Kubolor did on the ‘Delay Show’ when he was been interviewed by the host of the program, Deloris Frimpong Manso. To prove to the host that he does not wear boxers, Wanlov lifted his wrapper up and showed his dingdong to the general public on TV.

His twitter and facebook accounts can never be exempted as other forms of media he uses to propagate his controversies. Countless of people have insulted him on his facebook page as a result of his social media posts.

Somewhere around January 2013, Wanlov alleged God, Jesus, and Mohammed to be gays when he posted on his page that “If god made man in own image then god seff get gay ways”, “Who knows…by now Mohammed, Jesus and Selasie are having a cool gay threesome time in heaven and you idiots are here on earth disturbing fellow human beings…stupid sheep”.  Have you forgotten he once said Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan Is ‘An idiot of the highest Quality’?

These are just but a few things Wanlov has done to get himself entangled in controversies.

Kwaw Kese

This is the man insane. For now he prefers to be called the ‘satan’ of the Ghanaian musician industry. Kwaw Kese has for the past years played the controversy game very well. Before I continue, do you really know why he calls himself satan? According to him, every bad thing that occurs in our music industry is always linked to him. If we decide to associate all the negative stuffs with him, then it would be appropriate if he is being referred to as satan, the person humans link every sort of sin to.

Just last year, Kwaw Kese’s younger brother – Buda – was part of the finalist of the Vodafone Icon’s Street edition. At the end of it all, when the winner was to be announced, Kwaw Kese, from nowhere walked up on to the stage to interrupt the announcement of the winner saying his brother had been cheated. To make matters worse, he incited the crowd to chant the name of his brother.

At the previous Joy Fm’s ‘Night with the Stars’, Kwaw Kesse was reported to have taken semi-naked ladies to the stage. On that same night, a grudge ensued between Kwaw and VIP when Kwaw spread a flyer which had VIP inscribed on it and stepped on it. This did not go down well with VIP and their Nima fans.

In November 2010, it was reported that Kwaw had engaged himself in a fight with some city guards in Madina. This occurred when he parked his car at the wrong place. When confronted by the city guards, he became furious and fought them. He was then arrested by the Madina police and detained for a while.

Shatta Wale

He is the self acclaimed ‘Dancehall King’ in Ghana at the moment. Transforming from the Bandana personality to Shatta Wale, he has decided to be controversial in order to keep his name on the lips of Ghanaians always.

When did you read a newspaper, watch television, or perhaps listen to radio and you head something really positive about Shatta? Every news item involving Shatta has controversy.

At last year’s Ghana Music Awards, Shatta Wale expressed his displeasure to the organisers of the show – Charter House – for not giving the ‘Dancehall Song of the Year’ award to him. Angrily as he was, he kept screaming at the venue until he was thrown out and detained by the police. He went further to insult Kakie who won that award, and as well composed a song to insult Charter House.

Do I need to say more about the Shatta – Samini grudge? This has really got people talking for a long period of time. Songs after songs have been released to insult Samini. Shatta even claims he has slept with Samini’s girlfriend before.

Somewhere last year December at the ‘Loud in Gh’ concert, Samini was billed to perform after Shatta Wale had finished his performance. After performing well over 25 tracks, Shatta was signalled by the organisers to leave the stage for the next performer, but he refused, he even cautioned the organisers to allow him do his job as an entertainer.

Now, You Decide

One interesting thing is whenever you read any article or story about these three people; it starts by labelling them as controversial artistes. The question we are asking is, who is the most controversial Ghanaian musician amongst these three?
