The much anticipated movie – ‘Devil In A Dress’ – was premiered two days ago at the Silverbird Cinemas (Accra Mall and Weija). The premiere was greatly attended as several Independence Day holiday celebrants trooped in to watch the movie.
Attendance
Unlike many Ghanaian events that do not start on time, the premiere of ‘Devil In A Dress’ was an exception, as it started exactly at 6:30 pm. All the halls were full way before the first showing started.
Amazed as I was, there were lots of people who still stood outside with their tickets in their hands but couldn’t get inside the packed cinema halls. Such ones had to wait for the second showing. The two showings weren’t enough for the ‘gargantuan’ crowd as it became necessary for the organisers to make way for a third showing.
Acting
Perfectly on point is the right word to use. The lead character, Kafui Danku did marvellous with the role she played. One lady versus several guys, yet she was able to find her way through. She had the woman power and displayed it in a professional way. From start to finish, Kafui was all over in the movie, but interestingly, she wasn’t boring at all. For displaying such a brilliant acting cleverness, I would say Kudos to her.
Another actress who nailed it was Roselyn Ngissah. She has a limited appeatance but I kind of liked the enthusiasm and wildness she displayed. Her choice of words and her acting dexterity demonstrated in the movie made it more side-splitting and fun to watch.
I personally loved how Majid Michel managed some of the crisis that ensued between himself and his numerous girl lovers. It takes only a good actor like himself to manage those conflicts. He is one actor who gets better and better with each movie, and he proved this in ‘Devil In A Dress.’
Storyline
The movie began on a very good and interesting note. No other way could have been used to tell a better story than the romantic comedy approach. This is among the few movies that one could hardly make a prediction as to what would happen next. Each scene came with its own twist.
There is no way a person who loves romance or comedy would watch this movie and not fall in love with it. One needs to watch and see for him/herself how a courageous single lady (who calls herself not a professional prostitute but a complicated hustler) could actually handle multiple guys (friends) in a skilled way, and still have her way through.
Production
One thing that I always look out for when I attend a movie premiere is the quality of the movie. What the heck should I be doing at a cinema hall when a movie is not good in terms of the quality of production?
Well, I must say I stayed at the cinema hall for all the three showings to take place. What makes you think I actually spent that time? To answer it myself, I was attracted to the great storyline, and most importantly, the quality of production.
I’m just glad some Ghanaian producers are now placing emphasis on quality productions.
Lest I forget, the permutation of Ghanaian and Nigerian actors also gave a whole new twist to the movie.
Without technical hitches, I can confidently say all the attendees watched the movie with great joy.
The Weak Spot
The many hours I spent at the cinema was fruitful because I had real fun when watching the movie, although that wasn’t my primary mission of attending the premiere.
Erm, the only part that I kind of disliked was the narration aspect. It wasn’t much of a narration per say, but the lead character was doing much of the recount. Nonetheless, it would surprise someone to know as much as I consider that to be the weak spot; I loved that aspect in some way because I thought it contributed to the beauty and creativity of the movie.
I therefore conclude on a very good note that, I am really happy to have attended the premiere. There is actually a ‘Devil In a Dress’ everywhere.
