I’m Not too Enthused About Ghanaian Comedy – Hon Fritz Baffour

If an authority like Hon. Fritz Baffour comes public to say that he is not too enthused about Ghanaian comedy, then, it means our Ghanaian comedians of today need to pep up their game.

On Wednesday 5th Feb, 2013, Hon. Fritz Baffour was asked on Channel R if he is a comedian but he said no. Asked if he enjoys the current crop of comedians in Ghana and the honourable said that he does not.

“I’m not too enthused about Ghanaian comedy. When we started comedy in the past with people like KSM and Tommy Annan Forson, we gave out deep comedy. Now the industry is bad! Investment in comedy is poor, so basically, I’m not enthused about comedy in Ghana now.”

Fritz Baffour is one of the veterans who started standup comedy in Ghana in the early 90s. He used to host a programme on GTV called ‘Fritz and Friends.’ He’s been a TV producer for over 30 years. He’s a communication expert, writer, actor, and a politician.

When American President Barrack Obama came to Ghana, Fritz was the government’s official Tourist Guide who took the former to all the tourist sites we have in Ghana. He entered into politics and luckily for him, became the MP for the Ablekuma South Constituency.

He recently advised showbiz enthusiast to stop criticizing him and other politicians who entered into politics with accusations that, they go into politics and forget where they were discovered – creative art industry.

To those comedians who are insulting and casting invectives at critics, maybe they should now turn their anger at the honourable. Until then…..MOTWUM!!
