One of Ghana’s sensational songstresses, Efya, best known for her hit song “little things that you do,” has revealed that she would be venturing into film directing soon.
Efya made this revelation when she was interviewed on GH One’s entertainment show – E-Talk yesterday. “I want to direct movies aside the music I do. I shall be directing my own movies. I studied and majored in directing in the University of Ghana, Legon,” Efya intimated.
Efya also revealed that she has no problem with singing songs composed or written by other musicians or song writers. “I don’t see anything wrong with that. I rather see it as an honour because if someone gives you a song, it’s like the fellow has entrusted something dear to him or her, so if you take it, make it your own and make it ‘blow up,’ it tells how ingenious you are.
“My song “little things that you do” was written by hiplife musician Asem and “the best in me” by Akwaboah Jnr. Efya started singing at the age of 6 in the church choir. Most of her close associates thought she would have entered the gospel music industry as a gospel musician but that never happened.
Efya suggested to the host, Naa Ashorkor Doku, that it would be nice to retell the white Mary in our setting. If indeed Efya starts film directing, she would be adding to the list of female Ghanaian film directors like; Shirley Frimpong Manson, Leila Djansi, Veronica Quarshie, Nadia Buari, and Nana Ama Mcbrown. We live to see that day. Until then…MOTWUM!!
