Hollywood actor-Idris Elba, 41, who is of Ghana/Sierra Leone heritage has finally shut down rumours that he will play the first black James Bond.
The actor appeared on UK’s ITV, where he chatted about the Bond role, making a Luther film and the most challenging scene he’s played in his life.
While on the ITV’s Lorraine, the actor said he doesn’t understand the emphasis on Bond’s race, playing down speculation that he will step into the shoes of Daniel Craig as the next James Bond.
Idris said, ‘I’ve always detested the phrase ‘Black Bond’, I just don’t understand it.’
‘We don’t say “White Bond”, we just say “Bond” so it suddenly becomes a black man and he’s a “Black Bond” so I hate that phrase and it’s a rumour that’s gotten out of control basically but that’s all it is. There’s no truth in it whatsoever.’
