THE BIG QUESTION: What Is Your Take On Ghanaian Actors/Actresses Becoming Movie Directors & Producers? | Should We Be Worried?

Director-Shirley Frimpong Manso

Change is essential to our journey through life and depending on how it comes, it can bring extensive great benefits—but sometimes, it can be bad for our development and achievements.

For a little over a year now, the Ghanaian Movie Industry has seen a drastic change in our attempt to forge forward and attain a sustainable status.

Instead of our known Directors ‘upping’ their game and Producers setting new targets to be achieved, our actors and actresses have decided to add more to what they are known for…

Whether these actors and actresses have obtained the required excellence in their chosen field in order to take up the next challenge is a question for another time. But for now, let’s look at the sudden jump of our ‘not so good’ actors and actresses into taking bigger and exigent roles-movies Directing and Producing…

Luckie Lawson has produced at least two movies, Yvonne Nelson has about 3 to her name, Yvonne Okoro has produced 1, Juliet Ibrahim recently premiered a movie she produced, Nadia Buari has just produced and directed her first movie and Eddie Nartey has directed his first too.

The list does not end there, Nana Ama McBrown has produced several movies, Emelia Brobbey has two or more movies against her name, Van Vicker has directed and produced a couple— and we are told John Dumelo and Majid Michel are working on similar enterprise too.

The question is; is this good for our our movie industry?

Are our actors/actresses turned Directors/Producers going to be able ti take us to the next level in our industry’s journey? If you’ve seen some of the movies these actors and actresses have produced or directed, what is your take?

Are you one of the many who think these actors and actresses should rather take up some classes to better their acting and leave the movie production and directing to those who’ve been pushing it for a while now?
