If you live in Ghana or have been away for considerable number of years, I am glad to tell you that a lot has been attempted to make Ghana a better place but nothing has really taken off with great success; and it is all due to our mind-set as Ghanaians.
A lot of developmental initiatives and individual struggles are being thrown into the air, hoping they would cluster and improve things in Ghana. But from afar and near, problems are compounding and most of these initiatives cannot fetch the change planned, all because the Ghanaian mind-set remains the same…
Several road construction works are on-going, and others about to be started. Thousands of imported cars are running about on completed and uncompleted roads—a clear signature of a country eager to survive the hardship and make things better for its citizens.
But the citizens are the problem, vigorously defeating all efforts with their ‘get rich quick’, ‘colonial’ and ‘each one for himself’ mind-set.
Ghana could have been far prosperous with great prospects had it not been the mind-set of Ghanaians, and yet we blame politicians for all our troubles.
I cannot discharge politicians out of the wretchedness we find ourselves in as Ghanaians but the majority of what is bad in Ghana is due to our mind-set.
2 days ago at Ritz junction in Madina, a Zoom lion truck on a rocket speed ran over a car with two passengers—-killing the two.
The total disregard for safety and road traffic laws in Ghana is a projection of our mind-set, and this translates to every aspect of our lives…
You cannot enter into any business arrangement even with family members or close friends in Ghana, as the mind-set will be to make ‘quick money’ by swindling you out of the little you have decided to bring on board.
When was the last time you attempted doing business with the ordinary Ghanaian without regret?
I’ve stopped dealing with friends and family when it comes to money as this will always raise the red flag—eventually something will go wrong when money is involved.
Our mind-set is the killer, halting our progress as a nation…
Imagine over 20 million people with crooked mind-set, dribbling and duping each other for their own selfish survival in a country where laws are given no regard—and Ghana comes in mind.
We do not even care about our own safety as people, let alone our country. Taxi drivers have conjured their own road traffic laws which allow them to do whatever they please on the road.
The market woman just looks at your face and she will instantly increase her prices, ready to make you her biggest fish of the day.
It is one hell of a hustle and with the scorching sun making it worse out here; I do not see how we will be able to change our mind-set in order to manoeuvre away from our struggles as a nation.
If you want to know the mind-set of Ghanaians, just watch how they drive!
I understand where you coming from. but must you always write stuff about Ghana. everyday Ghana this, Ghana that. damn Ghana is not the only country who has a mind set of its own.
Yes it’s so unfortunate but that’s the reality we facing. We the people are the majority and as a result whatever actions we take is what the few we given power to will display. The example of NDC and NPP supporters having a go at each other is what we see going on amongst politicians of both parties so we shouldn’t expect anything good. Until we unite and accept certain truths of which some wouldn’t be pleasant then we are not going anywhere. We must look into the areas of education, religion and others and infact we must look at how things in the past have ended us here in this huge pit we don’t even seem to be able to get out of in order to be able to move forward. We must first have an understanding of who we are in order to assess what’s best for us than what has been bestowed on us since slavery. It has never worked!!!
To be honest with you Ghana is making great developmental strides. Also the increase in university educated citizens would lead to a more serious society. We have still not harnessed all our potentials but I don’t think it’s right to put all Ghanaians on one box. Afterall you are also a Ghanain
