OBS-Baby Named Messiah, Judge Orders Mom to Change Name

Published by

Religion has caused and will continue to cause a lot of misunderstanding among people especially when one person chooses to impose their religious beliefs on another person and cause those beliefs to affect their lives and decisions.

And when it comes to baby names, most parents have been very liberal lately choosing any name they want and naming their children with not just strange names but words, titles and names of plants. When a Tennessee couple went to court over child support issues, little did they know the name of their child would come into question and that they would be as much as forced to change the child’s name on the Judge’s decision that the name would cause problems for the child.

The Judge; Lu Ann Ballew ordered that they change the name of their 7 month old son Messiah Deshawn Martin’s to Martin DeShawn McCullough. In fact, even changing the last name too.

The judge insists her decision is right for the child because Messiah is a title that was earned by only one man-Jesus Christ and cannot be given to a child. This raises many brows because this child is not the only baby in the world today who bears the name Messiah. As many as 700 children were counted last year alone who were named Messiah.

Asking someone not to name their child Messiah because of your Christian beliefs is like telling someone not to name their child Mohammed because of your Islamic beliefs. In fact, I have heard of children who have been named Jesus.

The judge goes on to stand by and explain her decision. Watch below.

The baby’s mother; Jalessa Martin says her other two children are Micah and Mason so she chose Messiah to make it match.
