We hope the young boy gets some support and counselling for him to get over this unfortunate ordeal.

The 29-year-old cobbler, who sodomized an 11-year-old boy at Shalom Spot in Lashibi near Sakumono in the Tema Metropolis after smearing pomade on his manhood for easy penetration, has told the Tema Circuit Court B that he did the act due to poverty.

Emmanuel Awuah pleaded guilty with explanation when arraigned, but was quick to apologise to the parents of the victim he sodomized twice using different sex positions with the promise of buying the victim an MP3 player and making a pair of shoes for him.

The Tema Circuit Court B, presided over by His Lordship Emmanuel Bart-Plange Brew, did not waste time in incarcerating Awuah who pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy, to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour.

According to Awuah’s explanation, it was expensive to take a lady currently. Moreover, he was an ordinary cobbler who could not afford to cater for a lady, the reason for sodomising the boy.

A couple of weeks ago, Awuah met the boy at a riverside at Klagon near Lashibi where they swam together and then became friends. Awuah, some days later, saw the victim playing football and asked the boy to visit him, promising to make a pair of shoes for him.

On July 27, 2013, at about 3:00 pm, the victim visited Awuah in his house to collect the pair of shoes he had promised. It was there that Awuah asked the victim to accompany him to the riverside, which he obliged.

Awuah and the victim both undressed to swim and during the swimming, Awuah initially asked the victim to position himself in a doggy style as he inserted his penis through his anus and had unnatural canal knowledge of the victim.

The cobbler who was not contented with the unlawful act at the riverside further lured the victim to his house on the same day at about 4:30 pm where he forcefully made the victim lie down in prone position and again sodomised the innocent 11-year-old boy.

Before the act, Awuah gagged the victim with cloth to prevent neighbours from hearing his persistent scream after which he applied pomade on his manhood, perhaps, to ease penetration.

After the act, he again promised to buy the victim an MP3 player the subsequent day as the victim left for home. The victim was said to be blowing hot air continuously and an abnormality in his seating posture was detected by the mother.

The mother then questioned the victim who narrated his ordeal at the hands of Awuah to her in the presence of a witness. A complaint was then lodged at the police station.

A police medical report form was issued for the victim to attend hospital for examination and treatment. The medical report confirmed his ordeal.

Awuah was subsequently apprehended. He admitted the offence and was made to appear before the Tema Circuit Court where he was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour.
