OBS: New Music- ‘Blame It On The Money’ By D’Banj Feat. Big Sean & Snoop Lion—Is It Time For D’banj To Give Up The MIC?

Published by

When it comes to the music world, collaborating with treasured musicians like Snoop Lion (formerly known as Snoop Dogg) & Big Sean can be seen as a big step—and a jump towards attaining international stardom.

However, I have realized that such collaborations do not help African artistes when it comes to sales and acceptance. It will hardly cut down the throat of music lovers when an African singer like D’banj gets lost on a track with Snoop Lion and Big Sean.

Before I explain the above, let me say, I have listened to D’banj’s new song- Blame It On The Money and it is great. But I won’t want to listen to it again and I cannot even point out what music listened to…

If I want to listen to Hip hop, I will go for strictly Snoop, Nas, Jay-Z, Eminem, Drake and the others.  And if I want to listen to African music, this does not pass the test either.

When such collaborations are put together, Americans and Hip Hop consumers do not patronize them—and the Africa market struggles to enjoy it too.

In effect, such well-produced songs die off quickly as no group of people can identify themselves with them —-whole-heartedly!

Maybe it is time for D’banj to let the mic go since it seems his struggle for the next big hit is pushing him into making some of music’s big mistakes!
