On our way back to Ben’s place, Michael was a strong pillar; he did not only talk to me but also encouraged and gave me hope of living again. I could see Ben in Michael, he tried telling a joke to make me smile but he didn’t succeed, he was so bad at telling jokes that even a toddler will not laugh. The last thing I wanted was to be left alone and not to be forced to smile.
We got to Ben’s house and noticed something strange, someone was sitting in the terrace, he couldn’t be a family member because Michael was yet to communicate the bad news to them. The interesting thing about life is that, bad news travel fast. Since the lights were not on we weren’t sure who it was.
As we got closer, I heard Ben’s voice; Michael turned and looked at me. We were both startled because Ben died in the accident and Michael identified his body though his face was badly ruptured; the only person who died and resurrected was Jesus Christ.
Michael held my hand as we walked, he was quivering. Michael let go my hand, screamed out loud in fear like a child and hid behind me, I must admit that Michael’s reaction amazed me. His own brother’s ghost would scare him? I wasn’t scared; I knew Ben would never hurt me and certainly not his ghost. He had a confused look and asked if everything was okay, he walked towards me, my heart started beating but I was brave and stood still.
I told him he was dead, he laughed and said that was not possible. Michael asked him to slap himself to prove it, he slapped himself hard and we heard the sound of it. We told him about the accident and he said on his way to the office he pulled over to buy Soda and was attacked at gun point, his car, money and phone were all stolen from him. That explained why he couldn’t contact any of us for help. Michael hugged his brother and carried him.
I was too tired to react to the good news, a lot had happened in my life within a short time. I just thanked God and went on my knees, Ben was wondering what was going on, I took off my sandals, my earrings, I bent over and placed my hands on the floor, I am sure Ben thought I was losing it. He also knelt down and looked straight in my eyes, I held his arms with all my strength and slapped him for making me go through so much pain.
Anyone in my shoes would have done the same thing; I held him and told him to marry me immediately before something bad happened, I guess I left him with no choice since my eyes blackmailed him to say “Yes”.
I felt like I had gone through labour pains and had my new born baby in my arms, words will not be sufficient enough to explain the feeling, you have to experience it to know how it feels, all that happened erased from my mind, it was all worth it. My childhood fantasy wasn’t a fallacy but a reality.
Let’s toast to the Bride and Groom to be. THE END.
