Former Chief of Staff under the erstwhile Kufour regime, Kwadwo Mpiani has established that though it may be farfetched to trivialize the gay matters facing Ghana presently, he thinks there are serious issues which need to be attended to rather than waste all our precious time discussing the “nauseating” gay issue.
The raging debate on homosexuality in Ghana coupled with President Mahama’s relationship with an international gay lobbyist, Andrew Solomon, has consistently taken newer dimensions and continues to feature on every topical radio and TV discussions.
Related to the never dying issue, is the president’s nomination of Nana Oye Lithur to head the ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MGCSP), which some have alleged that it is a plot by the president to promote the act of homosexuality in the country.
But addressing the issue on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abiaprogramme, Kwadwo Mpiani indicated that it would be wiser for the country as whole to solve the major problems hindering our progress without prioritizing ‘only’ the gay matter.
He stated that the act of homosexuality has existed since time memorial and God has made it clear He is against it.
Kwadwo Mpiani made it clear that though the country can come out with laws to curb the act, the ‘nauseating’ canker can never be entirely uprooted. “Let us lower the priority we give to homosexuality and think about our development”
According to him, though enacting laws to punish culprits could be somehow useful, people had limited knowledge about the sexual orientation of men and women when they are behind closed doors.
He observed that there was absolutely no way man can stop people from engaging in the act and this should inform the nation about the need to concentrate on other pressing issues.
