Hitting the streets of GH are different ways of dressing .Some go simple with a pair of jeans and T-Shirts while others choose our indigenous “SLIT AND KABA”. But there is a little problem here.
Did I say little? No it’s huge. Even these pair of jeans are sure to go with tiny blouses revealing our waists and sometimes our beads .No need to prompt us because we are aware.
Bending is now an abominable act, thanks to our way of dressing. Tiny “rags” known as skirts now is a fashion in GH.
About the slit and kaba, this has become trouble for pastors since they are usually worn to church services. Some people intentionally sew it to reveal the breast and this is popularly known in twi as “W’ahye dwa” which literally means she is marketing or selling her body.
Straight dresses also fall in here with so many different styles. Some have no hands, some have one hand, and others totally revealing but wait, don’t get it twisted, it’s the order of the day and that’s fashion for you.
Can you tell the difference between the young and the old?, the married and the single?, and now even pregnant women are joining in revealing themselves all in the name of fashion.
To us, we think we are bringing out our shapes to look attractive but hei, some of us go to the extreme. Many guys are tempted by our acts, seriously, it’s not funny.
And the men, though not bad, are always in ties and suits even in the hot afternoons all in the name of being formal. Come to think of it; is it all about formality? Well I don’t think it’s all about that, but the secret is, they look smart and cute in that.
On the other hand, one can go the local way and still look formal. Talk of our “Batakari” ,”Agbada” ,among others. That’s what we saw during our recent swearing in of MP’S and the President.
On a serious note, we should not be surprised in the near future when we see people wearing “undies “ on their trousers, raincoats on a sunny day and very long heels on a sandy path all in the name of fashion.
Yes, that’s GH fashion fiesta for you.
