Rape happens every day across the world, and while some countries take it as a crime, other countries do not give it the deserving attention.
Why do some men think they have the right to every woman, and as such choose to take the honor of women with force? Rape violates a woman-spiritually, physically, emotionally, and mentally. Most women who are raped find it difficult to recover completely, and those who do, seldom have the scars and flash back memories of the incident. Such occurrences can have severe impact on their future relationships.
Ghana, for instance, treats rape as a crime and culprits can sometimes face up to about 10 years in jail depending of the severity of a crime.
In countries like India, rape is not given the necessary ‘attention’ it deserves as a crime. Men rape women daily and even when they are caught, some are let to go free without any punishment. I recently read an article about a congressman in India who boldly walked into a woman’s room to rape her in a village.
The congressman’s name is Bikram Singh Brahma and he is with the Assam’s ruling party Congress of India. The congressman had been visiting a village of Santipur on the Bhutan border when he decided to just walk into a woman’s house to rape her. Now how sick is that?
Luck eluded him when someone raised an alarm and the villagers caught up with him just before he sat in his SUV to drive away. The villagers gave him the beatings of his life, and ripped off all his clothes….he deserved every beating he got! They, however, spared his life and eventually handed him over to the police, which is a great thing.
The recent death of a 23 year old medical student who was gang raped on the bus on her home after watching a movie with his boyfriend has brought rape cases in India into the limelight.
Rape cases are often unreported in this part of the world because the victims often feel that people may not believe them and also because of the stigma that comes along with it even though it wasn’t their fault.
Sometimes rape victims are even blamed for being raped. In India, rape is very rampant because the accusers often go free leaving the victim to bear the shame and pain.
However, it seems all this is about to change as women of India and people across the world are calling for tougher punishment for perpetrators of rape.
Women in Ghana are not second class citizens as is the case in India. Rape is wrong and no woman has to be subjected to it.
I hope that the government of India will listen to the voices of its citizens and to the people across the world, and make it the greatest of crimes to commit rape. I believe by so doing, many men will think twice before forcing themselves on any woman.
Is it ever a woman’s fault to be raped?
NO……Under no circumstances should ANY person be raped. I am a guy. Trust me on this. IT IS NEVER, I REPEAT NEVER THE WOMANS FAULT! Rape is not a crime of passion, it is a crime of violence. Personally if a girl dresses provocatively then I feel as though she is given out a bad message. Although this is no excuse it depends on the location. If a girl is dressed and dancing with a boy in the club and they end up back at either house it is not rape. When a girl is attacked and forced rape then the man should be locked away and left to rott. So in response to the question it can absolutely depend on a lot of different situations
@Dr. Miyagi Atopa, seven years ago, a girl of 16 years was raped by a trusted family friend. She couldnt tell anyone about it, not even her parents bcz she feared they wouldnt believe her story and she was ashamed of herself….her pride was gone. She never saw him again..After 4 years, the rapist called to apologize, she is grown up now, its been 7 years but she cannot get it out her her head, she remembers it every time her boyfriend makes love to her, the pain is refreshed everytime she gets intimate with her man….she cannot believe that the trusted family friend could do that to her, she was too young….I still want to kill that man if ever i set my eyes on him….he should feel an existing pain that never leaves the heart….
@Eaglebabe, Thats a real tragedy I’m just speechless, poor girl must be going through some trauma
@Dr. Miyagi Atopa, u have no idea…i think about it almost everyday…the day he called to apologize, i was speechless, when i found my voice all i could say was “may ur soul rot in hell where you belong to”…according to him, he has never been himself since the incident…and i wish he stays like that forever…
@Eaglebabe, this is really bad I got two sisters myself but always pray that they don’t go through all this Evil stuff, I normally don’t put my stuff on here but a few years ago I lost a best friend because of the similar issue only difference is she took her own life few days later after the incident and was really painful that idiot is still alive walking around enjoying his life while a young innocent girl is now gone God bless her soul
@Dr. Miyagi Atopa, hmmmmmm May her soul rest in peace!! You can never understand how it feels, until it happens to you….its very painful, as if someone just passed a knife through ur heart and refused to let you die….it hurts that u will lose ur pride to some human animal, who at that point selfishly thought about himself alone…its okay, wont say anymore.
@Dr. Miyagi Atopa, Oh that is such a sad story. I feel so badly for the family and friends. As for the rapist, don’t worry about him roaming around for free because whatever goes around must surely come back around.
Let’s leave it heree my dear cause the whole world will be reading and I don’t want people to think I’m a soft boy lol@Eaglebabe,
@Dr.Miyagi Atopa, lol, u just made me smile…men always look strong and hard-hearted on the outside but deep within them, they are as soft as a baby’s cheeks…lol the soft Dr. Miyagi Atopa
@Eaglebabe, hahahahaha you got me
@Eaglebabe, Sorry about your friend. This is where I mentioned that the aftermath of rape becomes a lifetime scar. Just keep praying for her, and I believe God can turn things around in her favor.
@Dr. Miyagi Atopa, You made some good point, however, I may disagree with you on this “If a girl is dressed and dancing with a boy in the club and they end up back at either house it is not rape.” Sometimes, rape can be involved there too when the woman is given drugs that makes her drunk or dead sleepy for sex. I am sure you know about date rape. Sometimes, some of these men are in clubs only to date rape there.
@GC Staff, thanks for your correction I appreciate your feedback
I’m a teenager and I definally disagree with such idea because I know how it feel like to be rape.also rape is a crime because you are forcing someone to do something she don’t .on the other side of girls I agree with the away girls dresses it not OK and it out of control the point of the matter is girls have to try to act like responsible women that away we not have to much violence.
Theres notin calles rape…it called a surprise sex or slepping withou information
When did rape becames woman fault ,any man who. Will defend a rapist is either rapist or he will like to do it by chance !!!
Countries like India,Afghanistan,Pakistan women really suffer not interms of rape alone but in many ways stop this is to fight a total fight against it.
RAPE IS NEVER THE WOMAN’S FAULT!!!
@27cдгibre(Ф_ф), I am not personally saying it is ever a woman’s fault to be raped, no. It is that strangely even some women tend to blame victims of rape. I find that appaulling. When someone says no, it certainly means no. Also when you don’t ask for it, but rather just torture a woman to get to it, that is also not right. In my opinion as a woman and a mother with a daughter, I don’t ever think it is ever a womans fault to be raped.
@GC Staff, ok I got it now (:
But for me any man who will try that on my future daughter he is gonna die ,bullet will pass through his head I swear cos victims of rape suffer through out their life !!!
Memories of the rape scene hunt them
@27cдгibre(Ф_ф), LIKE ITS HAUNTING ME NOW….
@Eaglebabe, WTF are you serious are you a victim?):
@27cдгibre(Ф_ф), hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
@Eaglebabe, am sorry sweetheart God will protect you (:
The man who did that is a coward n he cant ask women out ..
F.U.C.K HIM
@27cдгibre(Ф_ф), its really sad I’m totally speechless hope to see this man one day face to face man to man
@27cдгibre(Ф_ф), hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
In Ghana rape is a crime and perpetrater can be reported and prosecute ONLY if the victim has money. I once took a victim of rape to the DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND VICTIM SUPPORT UNIT (DOVVSU ). Went through all the questions and after three hours was told that until she pays one hundred Ghana Cedis no one will take her to the hospital!! I was shocked. We were informed that the doctors will demand that before they even examined a victim, we were also told that sometimes they (women) are lying and IF they are able to pay the money it means they are not lying!!! SHOCKING!!!!! The Authorities put emphasis on money than the welfare of the victims. Yes, rape is a crime in Ghana but HOW many people are going to waste their time to report rape then been told to bring money before we even take you to the hospital?
Living in a society/world where men have always held the power, alot men mistakenly feel they have the birthright as males to do as they please. In certain circles of power, this remains true even as of this writing. No person deserves to be the victim of anyone’s crime bit as long as one person gets away with it, 10 more will try to get away with the same crime. Some crimes are all about having power over something or someone and rape sometimes is about powrr. Saying a woman wanted it is a lame excuse to hide the fact that a man couldn’t be with the woman so he had to rely onbarbaric means to satisfy his ego. In short, all males who think women deserve to be raped, get in line and i have no problem putting an end to your way of thinking.
