Nineteen year old Rosemary Anima Awuku wasn’t favourite to win the Miss Malaika@10 crown but noticeably she managed to prove and made her way into the final 5.
To the patrons who witnessed the grand finale at the Conference Centre last Saturday, Anima as she was called throughout the event merited a place at the top or final 3 positions; the winner, the first or second runner ups.
However, the final round of questions which she answered well and would have gotten an excellent from any WAEC organised exams saw her crashing and missing a place in the last 3.
She was not only concise in answering the question; she was smart in her delivery as well and wooed the patrons who cheered her on with deafening applauds intermittently.
Barely a month after Alexandra Ayirebi-Acquah who lost the Miss Malaika 2011 crown to Gerry Partington in controversial circumstances endorsed the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and propagated the party’s ‘Better Ghana Agenda’ during its manifesto launch, Anima, a finalist in the 10th anniversary edition has also endorsed the New Patriotic Party’s Candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo and his free education policy.
Now in the final round with Sadia, Anima, Regina, Ama and eventual winner Sharon. On her turn to answer her final question which was a make or break moment, she picked a question which was very unusual of questions asked at beauty pageants.
Her question was simple and straight to the point. She was asked to name one of the Presidential Candidates for the December polls that she would love to dine with and why.
“I may not be privy to all the questions asked at all the pageants but clearly it was below the par to ask a delegate such a question at that crucial moment in the competition.” One disappointed patron said.
“Each of the judges secretly support or have mild spot for each of the political parties. So what would happen if the delegate mentions a party leader that they are not in support of?” asked another patron.
The above were views shared by the patrons but on stage was Anima to answer the question.
She wasted no time in mentioning the name of the flag-bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Akufo-Addo. She stressed on why she thinks Nana Addo is the best person she would love to have a dinner with.
As she endorsed Akufo-Addo, the patrons cheered on. It appeared like auditorium was filled with NPP activists.
Explaining why she picked Akufo-Addo ahead of President John Dramani Mahama (NDC), Dr Abu Sakara (CPP), Dr Paa Kwesi (PPP), Mr Hasan Ayariga (PNC), Mr Akwasi Addai Odike (UFP), Mr Henry Lartey (GCPP) and an Independent Candidate, Mr Jacob Osei Yeboah. She said her choice is the only one she believes can move the country forward in right direction with his free educational policy.
As part of being a finalist of the Miss Malaika@10 each delegate will have a project and Anima is focusing on a project that will enable her to seek help from philanthropists to give educational support to brilliant but needy children in the societies.
She continued that, Akufo-Addo’s free education policy is a good plan which she gladly embraces hence supporting the NPP Presidential Candidate and urging the electorates to vote Akufo-Addo and return NPP to power for the commencement of the free educational policy.
Anima is a student of Central University College. She wants to be a Human Resource Manager to ensure that organisations have the right kind of people working at the right time and ensuring that they work effectively.
18-year old Bridget Sharon Cofie was adjudged as Miss Malaika@10. Regina Anne Dei Van-Helvet and Sadie Sanusi picked for the first and second runner up respectively.
Miss Talent went to Sadia. Miss Photogenic went to Frances. There with a tie between three delegates for Miss Congeniality.
Wow, such a bold move by a bold contestant. Well done Anima you did us proud. I tipped Sharon from the very beginning to win this pageant. She is such an intelligent talker. Congrats Sharon! you are indeed my queen.
Whoever wrote this article is a nutcase, how can the focus of an article which is based on a beauty pageant be on someone who placed 5th? Getting to the end of the article, I thought I was reading a political party advert, this is a ludicrous attempt to sell political affiliation through entertainment.
