MTN brand ambassador and previous winner of the biggest award in Ghana ‘Artiste of the Year’ in 2009, Okyeame Kwame yesterday won two awards at the Industry Awards night of the 13th Ghana Music Awards held at the lobby of the Accra International Conference Centre.
Okyeame Kwame who until yesterday came out that he actually topped the nomination list for 2012 grabbed the ‘Music For Development’ with his Hepatitis B free screening campaign which has seen him screen people in various regional capitals.
He also beat the likes of D-Cryme, M3nsa, Manifest/Efya, Sarkodie/Efya, Becca and Trigmatic/Becca to pick the ‘Songwriter of the Year’ award with his ‘Faithful’ track featuring Bertha.
Appietus, the producer of ‘Faithful’ was also awarded the ‘Producer of the Year’.
This means that, Okyeame Kwame and ‘Faithful’ did not only topped the nominations for 2012 but they also lead in the awards department ahead of the main awards on Saturday April 14 at the Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre.
In a chit chat with GhanaCelebrities.Com after the awards, the Rap Doctor said he is happy for winning those two awards. He said he is confident and hopeful of winning two more awards.
When asked of the other categories. He mentioned the ‘Best Collaboration of the Year’ and ‘Best Music Video Of The Year’.
Other nominees in the ‘Best Collaboration of the Year’ category includes Trigmatic/Raquel with ‘Aageii’, Fuse ODG/Tiffany with ‘Azonto’, Raquel/Sarkodie with ‘Sweetieo’, Eduwordzi/Stay Jay with ‘Yenko Nkoa’, Sarkodie/EL with ‘You Go Kill Me’ and Sarkodie/Efya with ‘I’m In Love With You’.
For the ‘Best Music Video of the Year’, Okyeame Kwame’s ‘Faithful’ by Ohene Media will face stiffer competitions from Becca’s ‘African Woman’ [Davis Media Group], 4×4’s ‘Yesi Yesii’ [Phamous People], DBlack’s ‘My Kind Of Girl’ [Jonathan Olamide & Desmond Blackmore], M2nsa’s ‘No One Knows’ [Sam A Kessie], Bra Kevin’s ‘3 Headed Beast’ [Nana Asihene], and Sheriffa Gunu’s ‘Mrantie’ [Phamous Films].
The Industry Awards hosted by Ruddy Kwakye saw performances from by Becca, QWECi (Ded Buddy), Okyeame Kwame, Bernice Ansah, Diana Hamilton, Blakk Rasta, George Darko, Paulina Oduro and Felix Owusu.
