Socrates Arrested In USA For Going Naked On Street…Really?

There is no consistency in this story and even if I suspend my faculty of thinking, I cannot still come to terms with how one will manage to strip in the cold weather of USA…

Maybe I am reading too much into the report by NewsOne, check it out below…LOL. I am not sure what the offence and punishment for stripping naked on the street could be. Possibly a charge of indecent exposure or something  right? And the penalty?

Controversial Ghanaian movie producer Socrates Safo is in police grips in New York for stripping stark naked in public, says information reaching NEWS-ONE.

Socrates is reported to have armed himself with a bottle of Russian Vodka at midnight, removed all his clothes and with his balls dangling between his legs, he performed ‘juju’ at the entrance of a video and cassette shop at Harlem in New York.

His actions were however captured by CCTV security cameras and he found himself in police grips a few hours later.

Reports said on Monday, Socrates was arraigned at a New York Court over the matter. He was reportedly found guilty and slapped with a fine but when NEWS-ONE reached him over the matter, his explanation was rather interesting

“Yes I was in court on Monday but it was not because I was naked in town or something.

I was a prosecution witness but my presence in court had to do with the reasons for which I stripped naked,” Socrates explained in a rather confusing manner.

Socrates Safo was said to have spearheaded an anti-piracy demonstration on the streets of New York with the support of the African Film Distributors Association.

The demonstration, reports said, nearly turned bloody when one of the owners of the shops selling pirated DVDs and VCDs pulled a gun on one of the demonstrators for attempting to seize the pirated products.

NEWS-ONE sources said Socrates then threatened to invoke curses on the guy who pulled the gun and this generated into fisticuffs but they were separated.

He reportedly returned to the shop at midnight with a bottle of Vodka with which he poured libation at the threshold of the shop, after which he stripped naked and invoked curses on the shop owner.

“If you guys are true arts writers you would have had some feelings for the arts industry and joined this anti piracy war.

I had no choice than to seek the intervention of the gods of my ancestor to assist in protecting my works and that of other African filmmakers whose films are being pirated like nobody’s business,” Socrates added.
